Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey has fired a warning shot at the current Middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez telling him to face him ‘man to man’ after he Canelo chickened out of a scheduled December, 2014 fight against Clottey citing injury.
Canelo (47-1-1, 33 KOs) exhibited a very impressive performance against Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KO’s) as he brutally knocked down the Briton in their bout at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to retain the middleweight strap in his first defense, six months after taking it from Miguel Cotto by unanimous a decision.In an interview with Pinkfmonlinegh.com the Hitter as Clottey is also known, said, “I always wanted to fight Canelo, we signed the contract, everything was put in place for the big fight in December 2014, the news about him getting injured was very devastating”.
“I wanted to fight Canelo not because of the money, I was focused about ending his blossom start to his boxing career, but maybe he saw me as a threat that was why he pulled out,” he added.Clottey also emphasized about his readiness to fight Canelo on any day when the opportunity arises but now he said, he is focused on his upcoming coming bout in June.
