Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife taken into custody after their son’s car accident

The Ghana Police Service has issued a new press release regarding the deadly accident in East Legon.

The statement reveals that Pastor Salifo Amoako and Mouha Amoako, parents of Erald Amoako—who was behind the wheel of the Jaguar involved in the horrific crash—have been arrested in relation to the incident.

The Ghana Police Service announced today, October 15, 2024, the arrest of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of the driver suspected to be involved in the tragic accident that resulted in two fatalities in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024,” the statement reported.

Describing the incident, the report stated, “Investigations thus far have revealed that on October 12, 2024, the suspect driver, 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, was operating a Jaguar SUV with the registration number GN 7801 – 20. Accompanied by one other person, he collided with a 4×4 Acura, which had the registration number GR 2542 – 23 and was being driven by Joseph Ackah, who had four passengers. The collision occurred on Mensah Wood Street in East Legon, resulting in both vehicles igniting and being completely consumed by fire.”

The investigation reveals that out of the five individuals in the Acura vehicle involved in the accident, three were rescued. Unfortunately, the other two victims, identified as 12-year-olds Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, lost their lives. The two rescued individuals who sustained minor injuries have been treated and discharged, while the third remains hospitalized and is receiving medical care, according to the Ghana Police.

The press release stated, “The driver suspected of being involved, along with another individual in the Jaguar vehicle, was also rescued and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The parents of the 16-year-old suspect driver, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are presently in custody and assisting with the investigation.

The public has been notified that a delegation from the Police Management Board, headed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the grieving family on October 15, 2024, to express their condolences after the tragic accident. The IGP and his team also went to the hospital to assess the recovery of the injured victims.

The Police have promised the community that an in-depth investigation into the accident is being conducted to provide closure for the mourning family. As the inquiry progresses, officials have expressed their condolences and support for the families impacted during this challenging period.
