The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is now ready to resume football activities following the successful completion of renovations, according to Patience Adams, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
In an interview with Akoma FM, Adams confirmed that although the facility is operational, official clearance from NSA leadership in Accra is still required before the stadium can reopen. “All work at the Baba Yara Stadium is completed and ready to host any football events, but we are awaiting clearance from our superiors in Accra,” she stated.
The stadium underwent renovations after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) declared it unfit for international matches, citing the poor condition of the pitch. The closure forced Ghana to relocate its 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan to Accra and prompted Asante Kotoko SC to play their home games in Obuasi.
The sports community is now eagerly awaiting the official green light, with expectations that the stadium will soon host both domestic and international fixtures, reinforcing Kumasi’s status as a key destination for football.
