There is a popular quote, which says “disability is not a liability” many people continue to wait upon government to make their lives better.
On the contrary, Mr. Augustine Boakye, a disabled journalist, has a different view, he expressed that once he has brains to think, he is neither going to wait for friends nor government to do everything for him.
In an interview with Sir Kaas, Pink fm newscaster, he expressed that, though government is doing well to see to the welfare of disabled people, but it is not enough, he indicated that, portions of district assemblies common fund, which is supposed to be given to disabled people, does not come on time, even when it is ready for disbursement, some of their members do not get some. He mentioned that, the last time he received support from Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly as a disabled person was three (3) years ago.
He continued, by saying that government and cooperate organization should employ more disabled people, because they have the capacity to deliver on the job, he also said most agencies and departments are not disability friendly, he wants something to be done about that.
Mr. Augustine, used the opportunity to mention, some of the stories he has been doing in Kasoa to transform communities, the stories cover health, sanitation, roads and security. He outlined, challenges he has been going through, in doing his stories, he appealed for support to enable him do more. In addition, he said as a married man with four (4) children, it is really difficult for him taking care of his family, meanwhile he has the ability to work like an abled person, so he wished to be employed very soon, so he can take care of his family.
