FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRESS STATEMENT (5/12/2020)

IGP SHOULD ENSURE JOURNALISTS WHOSE ACT COULD CAUSE ELECTORAL VIOLENCE ON ELECTION DAY BE ARRESTED AND PROSECUTED

The Kingdom Loyalists Movement (KLM) wants to entreat the inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Buanuh to ensure that journalists whose conduct on Election day could cause electoral violence be arrested and prosecuted.

In many countries where electoral violence has ruin their peace were caused by some unprofessional conducts of some individual journalists whose comments and reportage triggered anger among political followers hence leading to political chaos.

We want to charge owners of the electronic media houses both private and state owned to ensure that they give adequate training and advise to their staff who will be going out to report on the election and those who will be sitting in the various studios to be extra careful with their reportage and utterances to avoid creating unnecessary and avoidable tension.

Journalists should avoid exaggeration, sensationalism and emotional influenced reportage and stay utmost neutral and professional by reporting it as it is in all wisdom and love for peace on their minds.

This is not the good time for journalists to show where they belong or their allegiance to any political party or leaders since that could influence sensationalism, emotional, exaggerations and bias reportage which could set the grounds for chaos.

We at the Kingdom Loyalists Movement (KLM) believe all such conducts by journalists on the Election Day should be considered criminal and the IGP must ensure the arrest and prosecution of such partisan, unprofessional and self-seeking journalists for the sake of our peace.
