Fernando Alonso received the news he was hoping for on Friday after being given the green flag from FIA doctors to take his place on the grid in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix.
Alonso arrived at the medical centre at the Shanghai circuit in order to carry out a check-up on his left rib, which was broken during a horrific accident in the Australian GP 26 days ago.
“There’s no problem,” Alonso confirmed to MARCA. “The doctor told me that everything is O.K. It still hurts a little but I’ll get by.”
The official communication from the FIA is as follows:
“As a result of the medical examination carried out by FIA delegate Jean Charles Piette, and Chief Doctor of the event Shyi Chen, they have decided that Fernando Alonso is fit to take part in the remaining sessions of the weekend.”
“In case there are any complications, the driver has been informed that he must stop his car immediately.”
