70-90% OF DRUG USERS DO NOT HAVE PROBLEM-DR. CARL HART

Columbia University professor Dr. Carl Hart says a majority of drug users don’t have drug problems. He is advocating for government to change their approach on drugs. Also Dr. Hart has an out most expert knowledge in drugs.

To him authorities must stop exaggerating the harmful effects of drugs and teach people how to be safe with drugs. “Teach people how not to overindulge, just like we do with alcohol.”

Professor Carl said drugs are often used as a scapegoat for other problems like poverty and crime. Dr. Carl Hart also added that drugs are not as addictive as we have been told.

He passed this comment at the 1st Public lecture on Drug Policy Reforms. This was under the theme Drug Policy Reform: Perspectives on Criminal Justice and Discrimination Drug Use.

He  also said public policy needs to shift focus towards treating people’s real reasons for their drug addiction. Also that may involve better mental health services or economic opportunities.
