WE WON’T SHARE 1MILLION DOLLARS THIS YEAR- MINISTER

million

The Minister for Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson has stated that a key government policy 1million dollar per constituency won’t take off this year.

At the 2016 electioneering campaign, the NPP then in opposition promised a 1 million dollars facility to every constituency to foster development.

On various platforms, members of the communication team of the party had promised that, the policy including Free-SHS, one district, one factory and one village, one dam.

It is believed that the Special Development Initiative ministry was carved in order to speed up processes for these policies.

Following her nomination and appointment, the minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson on various media platforms had promised that the allocations for the various constituencies were been worked upon and shall be disbursed in July.

The minister however after some statements some of her own colleagues that, the allocations wouldn’t be disbursed is recorded to have stated emphatically on Pink FM that, the funds were ready and waiting for disbursement.

But speaking on Pink FM’s morning show on Tuesday morning after a long silence on the policy, Mavis Hawa Koomson on the contrary when asked about why the various constituencies have not received the 1 Million dollars stated that the constituencies will not receive their funds as earlier on promised and she had even decided not to comment on the policy until December or January.

But the minister mentioned some other programs that are being worked on by her ministry which includes the building of warehouses and provision of mechanized boreholes for some selected communities.

The 1million dollars per constituency according to the NPP’s 2016 manifesto was to allow the various constituencies embark on their own developmental projects according to their dire needs after a needs assessment is been done but the minister had earlier on stated after her appointment that “no constituency shall receive in full the 1million dollars as the central government is embarking on some projects within the various constituencies with some portions of the fund”

It is now not clear whether this key promise will be kept by government according to the message in the campaign promise or not.
