When Guardiola united Messi and Luis Enrique

There have been plenty of joyous moments spent by Barcelona fans and players alike under Luis Enrique, although the odd dispute has arisen.

One such example came in early 2015 when the coach left star man Lionel Messi out against Real Sociedad, expecting a cruise in San Sebastian but encountering a devilishly tough game that the hosts won 1-0.

After that defeat, Messi missed training and talk of a rift persisted for the following weeks and months, even though the Blaugrana picked up their results in view of a treble-winning campaign.

The telling moment came late in the season when Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich came to Catalunya for a crunch semi-final first leg, which saw the Argentine inspire a massive 3-0 win.

At the final whistle, Enrique and Messi publicly embraced in their first heartfelt gesture of respect since losing in Sociedad, labelling Guardiola as the maker of his most-successful successor, and unable to drag his new side into the final at Barcelona’s expense.
