WE CAN’T SIT ON THIS JUDGEMENT CASE AGAINST OUR ‘FATHER’- MP FOR AGONA WEST

The Member of Parliament [MP] for Agona West Honourable Cynthia Mamle Morrisson claims that she and her colleague MPs from the Central Region cannot sit on a judgement case against their father Honourable Kennedy Agyepong, MP for Assin Central.

She disclosed this in an interview with Kofi Asamoah Aning, on Pink FM’s morning show ‘Omanbapa Kasa’ host.

Honourable Kennedy was hauled to the privileges committee in Parliament by Honourable Muhammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minority Chief Whip and MP for Asawase on June 6, 2018 for utterances against Parliament and the Majority Leader.

The Privileges Committee consists of the First Deputy speaker of Parliament, Honourable Joseph Osei-Owusu as the Chairman with not more than 30 other members.

It enquires into any complaint of contempt of Parliament or any matter of privilege, which may be referred to it.

The other two colleague MPs of Honourable Morrison are Honourable Naana Eyiah of Gomoa Central constituency and Honourable Samuel Nsowa-Djan of Upper West Denkyira constituency.

According to Honourable Morrison, they recused themselves owing to the relationship they have with Hon. Agyapong as the Chair of the Central Region Caucus and hence, they want the case to be devoid of any biases.

Madam Cynthia furthered on by saying that she cannot state emphatically as to how far the issue can go or if this issue has a case but the judge who is there for fairness acts as a moderator who takes the views of every member of the committee after interrogating Honourable Kennedy and Muntaka.

Mrs Morrison explained that she cannot predict the verdict of the case since she is a member of the Privileges Committee. However, she and her other colleagues would respond to Parliament anytime they are called upon although they do not have a vote in the case.

‘The only assurance I can give is that the committee is impartial and they would not rule the case against Honourable Kennedy in the absence of the three of us but would be ruled in the accordance to the laws.’  Hon. MP for Agona West concluded.
