THE UNPLEASANT CONDITION OF OUR ENVIRONMENT

The unsanitary situation of various environments has been noted as one of the causes of flood that has killed several Ghanaians.

Improper disposal of waste by individuals have caused drainages to be choked, preventing the free flow of water when it rains.

In some circumstances, people dispose their waste into the rain with the view of it being carried away, but it ends up getting stacked in the gutters, thereby causing the overflow of water to occur. Due to this, the compounds of residents and the environment are seen in a disaster.

Day in and out, we all in one way or the other dispose waste, but then, is the disposal of our waste being done in the right manner?. Have you ever thought that the improper throwing away of waste can lead to the outbreak of diseases such as cholera, malaria, and diarrhea?

There have been numerous public education and awareness of good sanitation practices so as to maintain good health, but people are seen not to apply what has been learnt. Rubbish is sighted all over the country causing the harm to it development.

The government has implemented that; a cleanup exercise should be carried out on first Saturdays of every month, yet, some people have turn deaf ears to the law, causing their environments to be left in a poor sanitary condition. Is it that we are comfortable to see our surroundings in a bad state or it is as a result of laziness?

Our water bodies are being polluted due to the careless disposal of refuse. Looking at the sea which allows us to have a good feel of it breeze, people have decided to turn it environment into their defecating zone and exposing refuse all around, hence forgetting that it is this same water that supplies us with fish.

The dispose of garbage at the sea shore has brought up a very bad smell of the surrounding making it very difficult for one in his/her visit to the place not to have a good breathe.

There’s a saying which goes that “cleanliness is next to Godliness”. It pays to be neat but some don’t see the essence of neatness.

Citizens however, should make hygiene their number one priority to prevent the outburst of any deadly disease.

Intensive measures on sanitation must be enforced without fear or favour to save the country from poor sanitation situation which adds to the cause of flood.
