The University of Ghana (UG) men’s basketball team returned home from South Africa last Sunday as gold medalist after beating all teams in the 2016 Federations of African University games held in Johannesburg.
Team UG beat Midland State University from Zimbabwe in the finals by 96-52 scores to win the prestigious title
The UG team in its entirety team also excelled in other disciplines such as Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Netball, Table Tennis and Tennis.
In a press briefing after their arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, the Deputy coach of the UG, Mr Henry Nii Sackey said : “we had difficulties with the weather because we arrived in South Africa two days before the actual tournament,it didn’t help us at all but we were determine to make Ghana proud.”
“Feeding and transportation issues became a problem and it made things very difficult for us”.UG men’s basketball team in 2016 have won the 2016 Ghana University Sports Association(GUSA) games as well as the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges(UPAC) games.
