UCL: Partey scores in Atletico Madrid win over Lokomotiv Moscow

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey scored his first goal in this season’s Champions League to help Atletico Madrid earn a 2-0 win at Lokomotiv Moscow in Group D on Tuesday.

Portugal international Joao Felix broke the deadlock early in the second half of a tight game, sliding to the floor to knock the ball in on the rebound after his first shot had been parried by the hosts’ goalkeeper Guilherme.

The 26-year-old doubled Atletico’s lead 10 minutes later, knocking a ball from Diego Costa into the net after a lovely chipped pass from Felix.

Aside from his effort, Partey established himself as a prominent force in Atletico Madrid’s midfield with his display in Moscow.

Tuesday’s match saw the 26-year-old make 84 passes, the most he had managed in any Champions League fixture. This is after his man of the match performance in the Madrid derby last Saturday.

The win took Atletico into second place in the group on four points, the same number as leaders Juventus who beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 and have a better goal difference.
