Two men have been arrested by the police for allegedly breaking into a church at Winneba in the Central Region and stealing various items.
The suspected thieves were identified as Emmanuel Afenyi Abeiku, a 22-year-old unemployed and Isaac Mensah, a 32-year-old farmer.
They allegedly broke into the auditorium of the New Beginning Revival Church and stole items including 55 plastic chairs, three plastic tables, 15 yards woolen carpet, an office table, two coffee tables, three curtains, six boxes of wall tiles and eleven Wawa boards.
Luck eluded them when some of the items were found in their possession, leading to their arrest.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Godfred Tetteh Adjirakor, Winneba District Police Commander, said the two suspects, who are siblings, on June 11, 2016, broke into the church premises and stole the aforementioned items – all valued at GH¢2,247.00 – and bolted.
He said the following morning, the pastor of the church, Isaac Assafuah–Arthur, went to the church for a service and realized that the items had been stolen and so he immediately reported the matter to the police.
Police investigations revealed that the two brothers committed the act.
According to Superintendent Tetteh Adjirakor, a search in their house led to the retrieval of six plastic chairs, one plastic table, 15 yards of woolen carpet, an office chair, a table, 2 coffee tables, 3 curtains and 3 boxes of wall tiles – all belonging to the church.
Upon interrogations, Emmanuel Afenyi Abeiku and Isaac Mensah admitted to the offense and would be charged for stealing.
Meanwhile, the total value of items yet to be retrieved is estimated to be GH¢1,311.00.
