TOMATOES ARE ROTTING; BUYERS BYPASS THE AREA

The tomato harvest was good, they are ripe and picked, but still, the farmers aren´t earning money with their business.

Tuobodom the Techiman North district capital is known as the biggest area of growing tomatoes here in Ghana. In the past, the farmers had been suffered from post-harvest losses. From December to February there were no tomatoes available in Ghana, which is killing the business till now.

Along the roads as well as in the farms thousands of ripped tomatoes are rotting. The expected buyers just bypass Tuobodom to purchase the goods in Burkina Faso like they did before.

While this procedure turns the “planting foods and jobs” program into being unprofitable, it also means a great economic loss for Ghana. The mentioned campaign was planned to establish a stable working situation and support the farmers producing quality tomatoes.

The DCE Techiman North Hon. Peter Mensah tries to assist the worried grangers by adding his voice to the plea addressing the buyers to come to the district, buy and not bypass the city anymore. He wants to put emphasis on this issue and explain it to the people in Accra, Koforidua and other places.

The farmers need the money to live and cater for their families.

Below is the voice of Hon. Peter Mensah.
