THE EASTERN CORRIDOR ROAD OF GHANA

The eastern corridor road serves as the shortest route between the southern and Northern sectors of Ghana .
Hence the linkage between five (5) regions in the country namely, Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, Ashanti and the Upper East.

The Roads Minister, Honourable Kwasi Amoako-Atta says he is certain that the eastern corridor roads will be completed by the end of 2020.

The road stretches from the Tema Roundabout and ends at Kulungugu of the North-Eastern border with Burkina Faso.

This road has since time immemorial been in a poor state leading to rampant accidents and distraction in the smooth running of businesses.

One may ask how these roads have led to accidents and poor running of businesses.

Now, these road are used by drivers both pedestrians and as such these may happen if care is not taken.

On rainy days, the potholes on the roads are filled with lots of water and drivers don’t like to pass through.

Due to this they try to manoeuvre their way through and these acts all cause accidents.

A story was once told of two drivers traveling down this route.

One of the drivers heading towards marketing centers in Accra from Kpassa in the Volta region hit the other driver on the Hohoe-Jasikan Road.

The drivers got frustrated that out of depression, the man with yams gave them out at extremely low prices to other travelers along the route.

According to the driver, he sold ten(10) tubers at ten (10) cedis instead of selling three (3) tubers for ten(10) cedis.

This meaning he ran at a loss instead of making profit.

Several businesses have suffered similar problems due to the nature of the road while many lives have also been claimed.

Concerned citizens have sent several appeals to the government.

In the same way many other authorities have visited the site to help but all these efforts proved futal.

The government has however, assured the people of a completion of the project.

The Minister said at a gathering that the entire stretch would be completed by 2020.

The government has awarded  different contractors on different sections of the road.

Furthermore, the Roads Minister indicated that his Ministry is also working on many of the roads in the Volta Region.
