THE ACCRA SPORTS STADIUM WILL NOT BE READY TO HOST THE WOMEN AFCON- LOC MEMBER REVEALS

Ghana’s Accra Sports Stadium, formerly named the Ohene Djan Stadium will not be in a proper condition to host the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations, a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) member disclosed.

The Accra and Cape Coast sports stadia are the two venues designated to host the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations but the former will not be ready before the competition begins later this year.

Speaking on Asempa Sports Show yesterday (July22), Rashida Baaba Tano, a member of the LOC emphatically stated:

“The ceiling has a problem, the stands, they have to replace the chairs”

“The Accra Sports stadium on authority it will not be ready for November 17 to December 1 for the women AFCON [Africa Cup Of Nations] this year”.

She revealed that the organizers of the tournament will turn to the Tamale Sports stadium as an option when the issue gets out of hand.

“Tamale is in good shape and whatever work needs to be done there can be done before [the tournament begins]”, she stressed.

In view of this, she added that the Kaladan Park in Tamale will have to be renovated into a training centre for the teams that will use the Tamale stadium.

Besides, she conceded that there should be enough reasons to convince the CAF inspection team as to why the venue was changed.

However, the 2018 Women Africa Cup Of Nations is scheduled for November 17 to December 1.
