SIX CREW MEMBERS SAVED FROM BURNING VESSEL

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) saved six crew member on a boarding vessel called MV Synagogue which was gutted by fire on the territorial waters of Ghana of the Eastern Naval Command on Sunday, 14 January 2018.

According to report, one crew member had severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. The fire is believed to have started from the engine room.

However, the Acting Commander of the GNS Bonsu, Lieutenant Eric Agyie, narrating the incidence to the press said,” About 10: 15 hours, we sighted the vessel. About 09: 20 hours, the flag officer commanding Eastern Naval Command, called Class Sampa Nunoo (CNS) with two medical personnel on board to search and rescue a crew of MN Synagogue.

“At about 10: 15 hours, we sighted the vessel which was burning. Upon searching the scene, it was observed the crew had abandoned ship and had taken shelter on board a sister ship by name MV Nataraj. CNS Class Sampa Nunoo went along MV Nataraj and we brought the crew on board.

“In all, they were six crew all Ghanaians including the captain. All of them were in good condition except one who has sustained severe burns and needed immediate medical attention. The one injured was taken to onboard on the ambulance to the Tema General Hospital and later referred to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.”

“The fire started from the engine room, but as to what started the fire, it is the injured person who can say because he was in the engine room, so the cause of the fire as at now cannot be ascertained”.
