RAWLINGS HAPPY ABOUT AMIDU’S APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL PROSECUTOR.

Ex President Jerry John Rawlings took to his official twitter page to commend the appointment of Mr Amidu Martin as the special prosecutor by President Nana Akuffo-Addo.
He said “The President by this appointment has risen above partisanship and recognized a highly principled citizen…I call on all Ghanaians to offer the appointee the required support and information in pursuit of what will undoubtedly be a challenging role.”
The former president also used the opportunity to ask all Ghanaians to help and support the newly appointed Martin Amidu in serving the interest of the nation in fighting corruption and retrieving public funds.
Being optimistic about the oppointment of Mr. Amidu, he called him “fearless” . He said “Mr. Amidu has proven to be a fearless anti-corruption crusader whose pursuit of truth and justice has won him national admiration.”
As the former boss of Mr. Amidu who is a member of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) After civilian rule was established in the Fourth Republic in January 1993, he continued to serve in the government of Jerry Rawlings as Deputy Attorney-General. This he did for both terms lasting eight years until January 2001. Jerry Rawlings was in the best position to know Mr. Amidu very well.
Mr. Amidu who got the name “citizen Vigilante” as a result of his great work in the fight against corruption and the chase for the popular GH₵51.2 million judgement debt paid to businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
The decision by the president came as a shock to most people mainly because some people were hoping the position would be filled by a non partisan person, while others thought it would have been someone from the ruling party the NPP , so when the news about the appointment of Mr. Amidu broke out a lot of people were amazed regardless of his capabilities and credibilities.
