PURC APPROVED ELECTRICITY AND WATER TARIFFS EFFECTIVE FROM JULY 01. 2019

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Friday June 21. 2O19 announced a 17 tariffs increase. This is for recovery of total electricity revenue requirement for the regulated electricity market. The 2019- 2020 tariffs period will be effective in July 01, 2019.

A compliant was made by Ghana Water Company Limited to the Commission’s Regulatory Order Number GWCLO12018 dated September 06, 2018.And the Commission restored water tariffs to the July 15, 2018 rates which is the basis of the increase.

At a press conference today the Executive Secretary of PURC Mami Dufie Ofori, explained that the Commission received tariff proposals from stakeholders. They include utility service providers in the electricity and water sectors: Volta River Authority, Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO).

And also Electricity Company of Ghana, Power Distribution Services, Ghana Limited Northern Electricity Distribution Company, Enclave Power Company Limited and Ghana Water Company Limited.

According to Mami Dufie, in arriving at this decision, the PURC took into consideration several issues. Key amongst them is the ECG/PSP Process. Projected Inflation Rate Ghana Ced /US Dollar Exchange Rate. The Prudent Cost of Operation of Utility Companies projected Electricity & Water demand for the 2019-2020 tariff period.
