PUPILS CROSS THE WEIJA DAM ON CANOES WITHOUT A LIFE JACKET

Pupils who school at Weija cross the Weija dam on canoes to their various schools without putting on a life jacket.

Weija is an old town thus, has most of the government schools which pupils from Ayigbwe town, SCC, and Old Barrier attend.

In an interview with a reporter from Pink Fm Odehye Kwaku Asiedu, some parents revealed how dangerous and deadly the situation is which causes them to fear and panic each and every day.

They expressed their dissatisfaction on the restrictions by the military preventing the residents and pupils from using the water works bridge and they also asked for the provision of life jacket.

They again called upon the member of parliament of the Municipal (Weija), Hon Tina Naa Ayele Mensah to come to their aid. They also asked the government to help construct a bridge which will link Old Weija and New Weija as well as ease the pressure on the Cape Coast-Accra highway.

He also observed that the pupils had to pay fifty Ghana pesewas before joining the canoe to their various schools. Besides one of the canoe riders threatened to increase the amount to One Ghana Cedis. This situation may not be favorable to the parents since the canoe fare becomes an additional cost.
