I WILL PROSECUTE WITH SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE-MARTIN AMIDU

The special prosecutor has made an assertion to the Electoral Commission (EC) workers about the EC Boss that he will only prosecute with due process and sufficient evidence at a press conference in Accra.

Mr. Martin Kaiser Amidu was the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice from January 2011 till January 2012 under the late President John Evans Atta-Mills. Mr. Amidu nicknamed “Citizen Vigilante” was nominated by Akuffo-Addo and the Appointments Committee on 15th Febuary,2018.

He was later sworn in as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor by the president at the Flagg Staff House. The Special Prosecutor during a Press Conference in Accra has given a remark to some EC workers who have written a petition to him to prosecute the EC Boss, Madam Charlotte Osei for the financial allegations labeled against her.

Mr. Amidu spoke to the EC workers by saying “there is no office of the resistance known as the office of the Special Prosecutor but you need to appoint people, you need to second people because it does not happen overnight”. He made further comments by saying “we are working tediously to ensure that the vision that involve the setting up of the office materializes”

Mr. Amidu who is known for his “no-corruption” philosophy said he gave his word to all Ghanaians at his vetting that he shall do his job with the fear of trivial affection of ill will and the crime will be crime. He also said “we do not talk as law enforcement officers, rather, we act.

The Special Prosecutor confirmed that investigations have been initiated within their little resources so when it is time Ghanaians will hear about him and his team but it is just a matter of time. He later said they are not going to witch-hunt but they are going to make sure that any case that they prosecute have a certain degree of probability that the offense have been committed because every prosecution needs an expenditure of state Funds. Therefore they would not waste public’s Funds based on the emotional depression of people, then the office of the Special Prosecutors in respect will be off.

Mr. Martin Kaiser Amidu stressed his assertion on the EC Boss issue by saying that they will have to act professionally and prosecute only those who are disclosed by investigations and committed offences which is in the national interest of the people. Therefore, he will prosecute in accordance with due process and sufficient evidence that shows that the person must prove and defend himself or herself in court.
