The assembly member for Nzema electoral area in the Ashanti region, Hon Ebenezer Acheampong has lamented over the poor drainage is responsible for the flooding in the area.
“Every year, we have floods here and it’s mainly due to the poor drainage.Personally, I think the government and the Kumasi metropolitan assembly should look into this so we don’t have to face this problem over and over again” he added.
Hon Acheampng stressed that,he don’t want to go into details of what’s happening now because, the of leaders of Kumasi metropolitan assembly see it everyday apart from the letters sent to them .To be honest, we can’t continue this way.”he argued.
According to him, the heavy rains presents a hazard to the health of the people since we all know that, flood water is contaminated because heavy rain contains bacteria and germs and it’s not safe for human being.
He said, two people were drowned last year and this year heavy rain has put fear and panic in those who live around Nzima, kokode, Apre, Nwamasi all the Nzima electoral area in Ashanti region.
The assembly member described the situation as a nightmare and appeal to the KMA to do something about it before the worse thing happened.
He said, apart from the poor drainage killing innocent souls, they don’t have good roads,no health centers in all the four communities in his area and even those tiled road at Nzima was done by the Chief Nzima which is not even enough considering the population in the area.
He said,children don’t go to school during reason season because of the nature of the building.
