NPP dares NDC to put cost to projects in Green Book

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Amewu is challenging the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to put the cost to their projects as listed in their Green Book.

He said although the NPP didn’t have the money the NDC has now, they [NPP] were prudent in their expenditure while in government.

According to the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), even with the oil money at their disposal, the NDC keeps borrowing from the IMF without care and yet does not give Ghanaians value for money in the projects executed so far.

Mr. Amewu was speaking in the maiden edition of Minority Caucus on JOYNEWS, Thursday.

According to him, some three-storey buildings in Dambai in the same form and design is costing the NDC ¢900,000 when the NPP constructed one at the cost of ¢100,000 when they were in power.

“We could have done more with this money as we would have built nine more of such buildings in the Volta Region if we had that money,” Mr. Amewu said.

He accused the NDC of corrupt practices citing the mode of awarding of contracts. The former MCE said the NPP adopted the competitive bidding process in awarding government contract to bring the cost down.

He bemoaned the NDC’s sole sourcing method for awarding of government projects which shoot the cost up.

Perry Okudzeto hosted the program and the focus of the show was setting the record straight in the latest Volta region brouhaha.

Mr. Amewu narrated how he forced the regional minister to get the Hohoe road completed.

President John Mahama had mentioned in his State of the Nation Address that the Hohoe road was among the many his administration had completed. However, Mr. Amewu said he was forced to raise the alarm because that road had not been done at the time the president said it had.

He said the people of Hohoe should be grateful to the NPP for pushing the government to make the road motorable.

“The NDC is doing that road because of shame not because they respect the people of the Volta region,” said Mr. Amewu.

He thinks it is disingenuous on the part of President Mahama to make a blanket statement that the NPP did not do anything for Voltarians.

According to Mr. Amewu, the NDC should make their World Bank count for something as they don’t make deposits into their accounts with few ministers from the Volta region considered for appointments in the current administration.

Catch the Joint Caucus tomorrow evening as JOYNEWS’ Dzifa Bampoh moderates with the two main political parties going head to head from 6 pm – 7 pm on the JOYNEWS channel.
