“NO TRUTH” IN GOVERNMENT PAYING A CHINESE FIRM TO MARK BECE PAPERS.

The Ministry of Education has drawn to the concern of the public that there is “NO TRUTH” in government paying $98million to a Chinese firm to mark the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers.

This was declared in a Press statement issued from the Ministry of Education on 13th June, 2018.

According to a website, www.news7.pm.com , which stated the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia holding Press Conference at the Jubilee House on Tuesday June 13, contracted a $98million to a Chinese firm to mark the just ended BECE Papers.

The supposed website mentioned that, “Ghana’s minister for education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says its outfit has paid a Chinese firm ‘Huaseng Maiteng’ $98million to mark the papers of the just ended BECE”.

It again added that, Huaseng Maiteng was among 36 firms, including 35 from Ghana who expressed their interest in the job.

Further, the story stated that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia at a press conference in the jubilee house said, the decision to allow a Chinese firm to mark the BECE papers is in its right decision.

However, the Ministry of Education led by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has come out to say that there is no truth in what the website reported.

“The ministry would like to emphasis that there is no truth in the story. It is curious that the story refers to a Press Conference at the Jubilee House addressed by the Vice President, but that none of the major Press houses was in attendance to report the claimed story”

The Ministry of Education has emphasized that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) is doing the same work for free.

Furthermore, WAEC remains in charge of marking its examination through teachers it enlists and lessens for that purpose.
