The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of planning to rig the 2020 general elections, hence their decision to sack the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Thursday night, National Organiser Kofi Adams accused the NPP of trying to ‘bastardise’ institutions to allow them rig the elections.
“They are doing this, so as to allow them continue their rigging machinery, Ghanaians will not allow that” he said.
“They have bastardized every institution that we have except themselves.”
Kofi Adams stated that the party will resist any attempt by the NPP to destroy institutions in order to rig the 2020 elections.
He further said the party would embark on a demonstration exercise against the sacking of the EC Chair on Friday, June 29.
“Tomorrow morning as we have all planned, we will meet at the Obra Spot. The anger of the people will be shown on the street.”
The NDC National Organiser also called on civil society groups and religious leaders to resist government’s attempt to rig elections and join forces with the NDC to put government on its toes.
