NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL DENIES ALLEGATIONS OF TORTURE BY MODERN GHANA EDITOR.

The National Security Council has come to repudiate accusation of torturing Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri who is the editor for online news portal, Modern Ghana.

Abugri and two other staff were arrested last Thursday for allegedly engaging in cyber-crimes.

Recounting his experience to Joy News on Monday 1st July, 2019, Abugri narrated, “Every question they asked came with a slap. Sometimes, I was given slaps for unconvincing answers. They use an electric shocker to shock my body to the extent of shocking my ears with a shocker. I had to lean against a well with my legs up and my hands down as if I was dong press up. I cried like a newborn baby”.

However, a press release dated July 1, 2019 by the National Security Council denies all claims of torture and maltreatment of Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri.

The third sentence of the second paragraph of the release states that, “Torture and manhandling of suspects are not part and parcel of the culture and architecture of the secretariat under the administration of President Akufo-Addo”.

According to the release by the National Security Council, it is a clear and deliberate attempt by the suspect to discredit the investigations and the case against him.

The Secretariat therefore reassures the general public that it will at all times uphold the rule of law in all its operations.

Meanwhile, the suspect, Abugri, will be arraigned before court today 2nd July, 2019.
