The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Honourable Daniel Okyem Aboagye, has had his take on the minority’s claim that’ Nana Addo has set election rigging machines.
He said this in relation to a statement made by the minority on the newly nominated board members of the Electoral Commission, claiming that, the President has set “Election Rigging Machines”.
According to the MP, most National Democratic Congress (NDC) members react purposely to revenge what NPP did to them while in opposition. They normally brand the NPP as ‘corrupt’, ‘super incompetent’ etc.
Hon. Aboagye furthered by saying, “NDC want to infest NPP with their indelible mark, and create a level play field to compete with the NPP.
Due to this, they want to treat Jean Mensa’s appointment, as the same way NPP spoke ill about charlotte Osei’s appointment”.
Moreover, the MP stated that, all the new EC appointees, are very qualified. The fact that they are Ghanaians, and are also qualified, does not make any difference.
“It is not the EC or the Chairperson that determines the accounts of elections, but rather, they are in charge of the declaration of Election results, therefore they can’t rig in favour of any of the Political parties involved”.
Hon. Aboagye highlighted that, before the 2016 elections, many NPP members were arguing, not because they were afraid losing, but they were arguing that, she should put the law and what the court has ordered her to do, in place.
He also mentioned that, performance and vigilance are factors for winning elections, and not who is the EC chairperson, or who is not.
He said from his own opinion, looking at Charlotte Osei’s posture, her dealings, and the fact that she delays in the implementation of court orders, he thought, in a way, she could have created a problem for Ghanaians.
He finalized by saying, President Akuffo Addo saw the controversies raised at the EC, went through the recommendations, and saw it as an opportunity for improvement.
Hon. Aboagye claimed to be very okay with the nomination of Mrs. Jean Mensa therefore, the NDC should look for another approach of winning elections.
