Three ringleaders behind the campaign by the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) in Ho seeking to declare the volta region and parts of the northern region as the Western Togoland state on May 6, this year have been arrested.
They are being investigated by the Volta Regional Police Command and indications are that they will appear in court to be charged with treason.
They are Martins ASIANA AGBENU,63, DIVINE ODONKOR, 59years, and CHARLES KORMI KUDJORDJIE,83years .
According to the Volta Regional Police Commander, Nana Asamoah Hinneh , Kudjordjie has been granted bail, while Odonkor and Agbenu have been placed in police custody.
SECESSION; He said the decision to arrest and arraign the three was because the group had oriented T-Shirts which they circulated in HO and parts of the Volta Region to carry out their secessionist agenda
The map of Ghana and the area targeted the secession have embossed on the front of the black T-SHIRTS, WHILE ‘’ 9TH May 2017 is our day, ‘’Western Togoland’’ and ‘’ A citizen of Western Togoland’’, and ‘’A citizen of Western Togoland’’ have been inscribed on the back of the T-Shirts.
TREASONABLE; During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament ( ACP ), the Volta Regional Minister , Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, described the action of the group as treasonable.
REACTIONS; when reached for his comments, Dr,Letsa said he had been briefed about the latest development by the police and indicated that the police were dealing with the issue.
