MANY THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT EID-AL FITR AND THE FASTING BEFORE IT.

Eid-al Fitr is well known to be celebrated by Muslims after the moon is sighted but a lot of people don’t know the real content of the celebration. They also wonder why the moon but not anything else.

Eid-al fitr is on the first day of Shawwal, the second and the third depending on the moon in the Islamic calendar. It means “festival of breaking the fast” and marks the end of the holy month of fasting. It is very important because the Muslims feel they were able to go through the fast successfully.

The fast begins at dawn and ends at sunset. During the fast they are not to eat and drink anything and even they are not allowed to even keep saliva in their mouth purposely and take it in like water. Muslims say the best way to have a great fast is by sleeping because there are no temptations.

In the morning of Eid-al Fitr, Muslims across the world go to their Mosques or sometimes in an open place to pray. After the prayers the people go home either to continue cooking or start cooking to share to neighbors. But before the prayers, in the morning those who have in terms of money and other things, give to those who don’t have, to assist them in the celebration. This process is known as Zakat. It is known that, if it is given in the morning before the prayers there is a lot of blessing in it than after the prayers.

When it comes to the moon, Muslims believe that it serves as a sign from God. They believe that this is how God is able to communicate with them about the starting of the fasting and the ending of the fasting. Sometimes before they start the fast it can appear in Ghana but not Nigeria they will communicate to the whole world that the moon has been sighted.
