LEBANESE AMBASSADOR TO GHANA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO 20 GIJ STUDENTS

The Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Ali H. Halabi, on behalf of Lebanese community awarded scholarships to about 20 students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) on Tuesday, 5th September, 2017 at GIJ.

The motive behind this award is to impact live, put smiles on the faces of these students and their families and help them to reach their full potential. And also to support Ghanaian students so that they can contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s growth.

Making the presentation, His Excellency Ali H. Halabi, explained that, the Lebanese community in Ghana believes that the promotion of freedom of speech is crucial in strengthening Ghana’s growing democracy.

The media which is increasingly becoming vibrant is the catalyst for social stability and economic growth. According to him, the media is a very powerful institution and therefore must be handled by responsible and professional Journalists who have the Nation at heart.

This is why their helping raise a core of such professionals at the Ghana Institute of Journalism through their annual scholarships program.

This year the Lebanese community awarded scholarships to fifteen undergraduate students and five post-graduate students.

The scholarship package covers the full tuition fees of the fifteen undergraduates and 75% for the post-graduates. Over the years, Lebanese community has demonstrated through their scholarship program, their commitment to improving the human resource of this country.

Aside this institution, the community has awarded similar scholarships to law students at the University of Ghana – Legon and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

In addition, children of the Martyrs of the Ghana Armed Forces, Immigration and Police Services are also being assisted by this scheme to complete their education.

Ambassador Ali H. Halabi, urged the students to take their studies seriously to become better citizen in future. Receiving the award, Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah, Rector of GIJ, noted that, for five consecutive years, several students receive support from the Lebanese community to pursue their academic dreams in various fields of study.

He delighted that their helping to build a better society for these students and Ghanaians through the provision of quality education.

He thanked the Lebanese community for their continued support and partner with GIJ and urged him to support the other programs such as communication, Human Resources etc. On his part, Prosper Kofi Senyo, the spokesperson for the beneficiaries of the scholarship, express his heartfelt appreciation to the Lebanese community in Ghana for the massive investment they have made in their education through this scheme.

He finally pledged to His Excellency Ambassador Ali H. Halabi and Lebanese community, their commitment to their passion for the welfare of all Ghanaians and they will work hard, not just to excel academically, but to also become responsible citizens touching the lives of other Ghanaians in many areas.
