The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has relieved fifteen (15) Metro guards of their duties for gross misconduct .                                                                                                                                                               The 15 were cited for various offences including alleged extortion. Out of 198 personnel screened, it was found that 46 were working without appointment letters, 21 of them engaged in mere labourer work and 6(six) others were found to be unfit medically .

Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi, the KMA Chief Executive Officer revealed this at a meeting with members of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) on Thursday, October 6. He lamented that KMA has gained notoriety over the conduct of some City Guards owing to their uncouth behavior.

He said most of them sent on motor traffic duties in parts of the city tend to engage in illicit activities including extortion of monies from innocent drivers. Non-performing city guards will be sacked, others will be transferred and those who are not fit will also be laid off, warned by the KMA boss.

Furthermore, he disclosed that the Military High Command has also withdrawn a Captain stationed at the Assembly to oversee the activities of the guards following the development. The mayor noted that the command will soon post a new officer to takeover. In a related development, the Kumasi  Traditional Council (KTC) has declared its support for the Mayor of Kumasi, Osei Asssibey Antwi on his plans to redevelop the city to regain its lost glory.

The Council which consist of all heads of Asante clans has been sanctioned by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, to deliberate on Kumasi’s development.
