Kasoa police killing: Prime suspect arrested

The prime suspect who is said to have killed two police officers in Gomoa Buduburam near Kasoa has been arrested.

Eric Kojo Duah, who has been declared wanted by the police was on his way to the Volta region en route Akosombo in the Eastern region when he was nabbed.

According to the information from the police, “policemen detailed on duty at Atimpoku bridge were alerted to arrest occupants of a black Golf car with registration number GW 5972-18 heading towards Volta region”.

The suspect had a big plaster on the left side of his face at the time of his arrest to disguise himself since there is a bounty of ¢10,000 on his head. 

Confirming his arrest Director-General of Public Affairs Directorate, ACP David Eklu told Joy News’ Samson Lardy Anyenini that it is the beginning of getting to know what happened.

“It is the beginning of the process and further investigations are ongoing but this arrest we believe is key to getting to the bottom of this case,” he said.

ACP Eklu said they cannot confirm reports that Mr Kojo Duah recently fired the gun he used to kill the two officers.

“That information is not available to us at the station, it is also part of the investigations we are conducting,” he added.

Mr Kojo Duah is said to be the masterminded behind the attack and killing of Sergeant Michael Gyamesie and Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central region on Wednesday.

Sources tell Joy News the suspect and his armed gang were in an unregistered blue-black Toyota Camry from an area called Kasoa-Vodafone heading towards the Bawjiase road which is a major hideout for robbers.

A 13-year-old girl who witnessed the shooting said Sgt Gyamesie Gyamesie accosted Mr Kojo Duah to arrest him after slapping him.

Obviously pissed, he told the officer he is taking something from his car but pulled a gun and fired at the policeman who had slapped him and his partner, Awal Mohammed.

The teenager said the officer then rushed into their shop to seek cover with the other officer also running for his life.

Sgt Gyamesie died in the grocery shop after Mr Kojo Duah walked in to shoot him again while Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed who had been shot in the ribs and waist died later at the Police Hospital.

Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed was buried in Kumasi on Friday.
