K.B ASANTE PASSES ON

Kwaku Baprui Asante passes on at 93. This was confirmed to Citi Fm by a family member on Monday morning, who said further information will be released later.

Born on March 1, 1924, he was a retired Ghanaian diplomat, writer and a Politian.

He was a student at the Achimota School and Achimota College where he later became a teacher there.

He continued to Durham University in Britain where he obtained a BSc Mathematics in 1952. Asante became a member of the Institute of Statisticians in 1953, before returning to Achimota College to teach Mathematics from 1953 – 1955.

Mr Asante served under many Heads of States in Ghana. He was the Secretary to Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and also served as the Principal Secretary at African Affairs Secretariat from 1960 to 1966.

He became Ghana’s Ambassador to Switzerland and the United Nations Offices in Geneva, and  the UN establishment in Vienna, and also the Ambassador to Australia from 1967 – 1972.

K.B Asante also served as the Ambassador to Belgium, Luxemburg and the European Economic Community from 1976 – 1978.
