IT’S A GOOD MOVE BY THE PRESIDENT TO APPOINT JEAN AS EC BOSS- MAJORITY LEADER

Majority Leader in Parliament, Honourable Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu has described the nomination of Jean Mensa as the next Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) as a good move by the President.

He disclosed this to the host of ‘Omanbapa Kasa’ a current affairs program on PINK FM, a Kasoa-based radio station.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency who also doubles as the Chairman for Parliamentary Affairs expressed his confidence in Mrs Jean Mensa who is the Executive Director of Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) as EC Boss.

He continued by saying, “everybody knows the kind of work Jean Mensa does at IEA, comparing those who just left office to Jean, I don’t think no one will get any concrete allegation against her for doing something bad

According to him, “for all the political parties anybody appointed to undertake any government position is thoroughly scrutinized to check any attachment with any political affiliation”.

The MP insisted that the opposition party’s claim about Jean Mensa being a pro NPP is null and void.

He associated their claims as being mere speculations since, when they (NPP) were in opposition also led same allegations that Jean Mensa was a pro NDC because “of the help she rendered to former President John Mahama in 2012 IEA Debate”.

On the issue about the credibility of the other two nominees thus, Dr. Bossman Asare and Mr Samuel Tettey as deputy Chairpersons, the Honourable indicated that their knowledge and intelligence surpasses that of their predecessors.

Hon Osei commended Jean for the good work done in lifting the good name of IEA.

Mr Osei was of the view that neutrality and objectivity should be the main focus of every work.

But the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed their displeasure about Jean Mensa’s nomination.

NDC STATEMENT

According to the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, they received the news of her nomination with “shock and disbelief”.

The party says it has “further and better particulars” to prove that Mrs Mensa is “unfit” for the job and would due time present it to the general public.

Kofi Adams the NDC National Organizer also stated, “We are not convinced at all that she will do a good job”.

EC NOMINATION

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare has named Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa as Chairperson, Mr Samuel Tettey and Dr Eric Asare Bossman as Deputy Chairpersons, and Ms Adwoa Asuama Abrefa as member of the Commission.

STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENCY

This statement follows the removal of Mrs Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwaa for stated misbehaviour.
