The Members of Parliament (MPs) for Manso-Adubia Honourable Yaw Addo Frimpong and Techiman North Honourable Alex Kyereme backs the President; His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo for sacking the Electoral Commission [EC] boss, Mrs Charlotte Osei, and her two deputies, Mr Amadu Sulley and Ms Georgina Opoku Amankwah with immediate effect.
The MPs disclosed this in an interview on Pink FM’s morning show “Omanbapa Kasa” hosted by Kofi Asamoah Aning.
This was after the Committee set up by the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, pursuant to Article 146(4) of the Constitution, to investigate separate complaints brought against the persons by Ghanaian citizens, recommended their removal from office.
The Committee recommended their removal on the basis of stated misbehaviour and incompetence, pursuant to the Article 146(4) of the constitution.
According to Honourable Yaw, the President acted on the petition based on the law by referring the petition to the Chief Justice who set up a committee to investigate the matter.
‘Setting the law aside, they (the EC and her two deputies) have no moral right to overseer our elections because of the charges levelled against them by the citizenry.’ The President did it lawfully to prevent any upheaval. Mr Frimpong added.
The Member of Parliament furthered on by questioning the members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on what grounds they held their Press conference in relation to the removal of the EC boss and her two deputies from their offices.
‘They keep holding Press conferences which has no effect, Rule of Law and Democracy gives you the right but the NDC should be rest assured that the security of the state is ready to take on anyone who would bring any misunderstanding in the state’. Mr Addo stated.
Honourable Addo reiterated that the removal of the EC boss and her two deputies is not a tactic to divert citizens attention from the issue between the Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and the MP for Assin Central Honourable Kennedy Agyepong because Honourable Kennedy also has the democratic right to challenge the integrity of Anas.
However, Honourable Alex Kyereme who is on the ticket of the NDC claims he may differ from the position of his party because he is not impressed with the work of the EC boss.
‘Some people have presented petitions against her which has passed through constitutional provisions. If the President is not impressed with her work and she is sacked, she should go home and rest.’ Mr Kyereme stated.
‘This same woman declared the NDC losers in the 2016 general elections and told the public their computers have been hacked. If she had done her work well, this would not have happened in the elections.’ Mr Alex added.
The Honourable Member advised Mrs Charlotte Osei to defend the charges levelled against her at the law court since she is a lawyer.
