Government sets up 5-member committee to manage Ghana Football

A five member interim committee has been formed by the Government to manage football in Ghana, as steps are being taken to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA), after the much publicized Anas Expose.

According to a statement signed by Minister of Information, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the committee will be chaired by Dr. Kofi Amoah, with Mr. Cudjoe Fianoo as the the Secretary.

Mr. Abedi Pele, Reverend Osei Kofi and Miss Eva Okyere would act as members with sports journalist, Dan Kwaku Yeboah acting as the spokesperson for the committee.

The statement said pursuance to Government taking steps to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and halt of all football activities in the wake of the Anas expose, that saw massive bribery and corruption in the football fraternity, it has become prudent for government to institute a team that would oversee affairs, as there is an ongoing dialogue between Ghana and football’s governing body Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to resolve the issue.

“Pursuance to an application for interim injunction at the instance of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, for an order restraining the Members, Directors and Officials of the GFA from exercising such powers as are ordinarily conferred on them by the provisions of the Companies Act (Act 179).

“In the meantime, the Government of Ghana has decided to set up an interim management committee to oversee the administration of football and other related matters in Ghana”.

The statement noted that Government is engaging with FIFA and CAF as promised to discuss current developments in Ghana to chart the way forward.

The Government is therefore urging Ghanaians to exercise restraint as it takes steps to sanitize the situation and restore normalcy to football in Ghana.
