President Nana Akuffo-Addo speaking about the bill.

The lecturers explained that government already has representatives in all public universities. The new bill gives government’s majority appointees of nine (9) representatives and just four (4) to the others. These representatives in the governing council on public universities.

The stakeholders and educational leaders feel very threatened with the new university new. They say it’s undeniable that, the majority will always win when it comes to decision making. This is because as the saying goes “Majority carries the vote” and the government has an upper hand.

They argued also that universities will be crowded due to the free senior high educational system. And meanwhile, there seem not to be any expansion work going on in the universities.

Also the government is gradually taking total control of the public universities.the government representatives may also increase the number of students allowed in a hall. But the government representatives also said they won’t allow such and would be fair in decision making.
