GHOSTS NAMES TO BE ROLLED OUT OF GOVERNMENT PAYROLL-AUDITOR GENERAL

The Auditor General Department has started a nationwide verification exercise yesterday in the Central Region with the aim of removing ghost names from government’s payroll.

Speaking on Onua Fm’s Yen Nsempa, the Deputy Auditor-General Mr. George Swanzy Winful explained further their intentions for the exercise which began in the Central Region on Tuesday July 17, 2018.
He said “We have identified some irregularities in the system and what we can say for now is that those above 60 years and are still working in government agencies should come along with their approval letter indicating that, the government has given them the approval to work”.

Adding that, the Auditor-General’s Department and the Office of Special Prosecutor are collaborating to audit the payroll of the entire public service across the country through their verification exercise which is to limit the issue of ghost names found on the government’s payroll in spite of the frequent cleansing.

The Auditor-General’s Department, the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Ministry of Finance with support from the World Bank are embarking on this new exercise.

The exercise which began in Central Region on Tuesday will move to the Western Region after 10 days of the exercise.

Mr. Swanzy Winful stated in his interview that, if you are above 60 years you must come with a letter.

“If you are above 60, come along with the letter which indicates that government has given you the approval to continue working because some people are allowed to work after 60, especially, medical doctors”.

He further explained that some people do not have the right to work after 60years
“Some people do not have the right to continue working after 60 years, so if you are above 60 and still working and on government payroll, come along with your letter”.

The verification Audit is still progressing in the Central Region and will last for 10 days and the team will move to the next Region to continue with the exercise which is a nationwide exercise for government workers.
