“We will have to give thanks to the Almighty God and the President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo”. He added
Prior to the review of the budget there were reports that government will increase Value Added Taxes [VAT] from 17.5% to 21%.
The General Secretary of ICU stated that the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union will critically review the budget and bring out their findings soon.
The Mid-Year budget was presented to the Parliament by the minister of Finance Honourable Ken Ofori Atta on Thursday, July 19, 2018.
The Finance Minister stated that government is not collecting as much taxes as it should.
Instead of the government imposing many taxes, it has brought out measures;
- Ensure compliance with existing tax laws
- Plug the leakages in the existing system
- Ensure value for money for the expenditures that government undertakes
- Ensure that the wealthy also pay their fair share.
