Mahamudu Bawumia the Vice President of Ghana made a keynote on petroleum production in the country hinting that, ” the concept of a’ petroleum hub ‘ is one of Government’s strategic anchor initiatives that would serve as a new pillar of growth in the Ghanaian economy.
It has been 10 years since Ghana made the historic discovery of oil and gas.
Some energy experts at the Ghana International Petroleum Conference ( GHIPCON ) are urging government to speedily develop a policy framework to back it vision of creating a petroleum hub in the country.

Government is seeking to develop a petroleum hub which is expected to include refineries, tankfarms, pipelines, and other infrastructures to help create jobs to reduce the serious unemployment situation in the country and raise more revenue for the government. This will go beyond just maintaining political stability and create the needed environment to attract investors. The Deputy Minister for energy, Muhammed Amin stated that, the country must be ready to provide the human resources needed for the hub. ” The skillset to fill in the skills gap is so important, and we are working towards improving the skill set of Ghanaians for the industry. we are also going into a co-operation agreement with the Singapore”.
He also said that ” We want to learn how they did it, how they trained their people. We have so far help discussion with the Singapore authority, we want to have that co-operation agreement with them to support us to be able to train Ghanaians and allied industries ” he added. Then the government would therefore pursue it vision to establish a thriving petrochemical industry to guarantee sufficient reliable and affordable clean energy for power generation and supply to support economic activities and to keep the country on the right path to the desired growth.
Vice president Bawumia explained that a successful implementation of the project would apart from creating employment , have immense benefits for the players in the industry as well as the nation as a whole.
