GH¢8.75 million accrued in COVID-19 Trust Fund – Akufo Addo

The COVID-19 Trust Fund created by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has so far generated GH¢8.75 million largely from public donations.

According to the President, funds from the donations also include an amount of US$600,000.

“I am very grateful to the individuals and institutions, who have responded to my appeal for donations to be made into the COVID-19 National Trust Fund, which has been established to complement Government’s fight against the virus, and to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable.”

“A total amount of some eight million, seven hundred and fifty thousand cedis (GH¢8.75 million), which includes six hundred thousand United States dollars (US$600,000), has been received so far for this purpose.

“I am happy that so many appointees of my government have also followed my example by donating their salaries to the Fund.”

The President made the announcement in a national broadcast on Sunday, April 5 on additional measures taken by the government in the fight against coronavirus.

The fund, which was earlier announced by him, was to support the well-being of individuals who will be adversely affected by the novel Coronavirus pandemic in Ghana with three months of his salary, as a seed fund support.

The COVID-19 Trust fund is being managed by an independent Board of Trustees and chaired by former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.

Public contributions can also be made to the fund in support of individuals who will be struck by the outbreak of the virus.
