GENDER MINISTRY TO SHUT DOWN TWO ORPHANAGE HOMES AT DODOWA

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, will soon shut down two orphanage home at Dodowa in the Shia Osuduku District of the Greater Accra region. This is as a result of poor maintenance facilities.

The possible closure follows a visit by the ministries to two orphanage homes, identified as Dodowa Rising Star Orphanage Home and the Potters Village, which expose the unhygienic condition under which the children live.

“The home does not even qualify to house animal and the state of the children. Hence, this orphanage home can easily destroy the future of the children. I can’t give any concrete information because I have to consult the director I work with” she said on her visit to the home.

Earlier report has shown that, about 55 children in the orphanage home were sleeping in a single room which had witness no major renovation since its establishment in 1824.

Hon. Morrison warned all social welfare directors to stop giving license to substandard individual who do not have the needed resource in the operating orphanage homes.
