GALAMSEY IS OUR MAIN THREAT, WESTERN REGIONAL FARMERS LAMENT

Mr. Oliver Sawu, the Sefwi Bodi District Best Farmer has stated that the main threat to farmers within the enclave of the northern part of the western region is illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’.

The seasoned farmer was speaking to Pinknews’ Akwasi Addo after winning the overall district best farmer award in an interview at his residence.

“Our main threat now is galamsey, there has been a series of attempt by these illegal miners to carry out their operations here but they have consistently failed because we have been refusing to agree with them. But it has already began in some parts around Juaboso which is closer to us hence we are calling on all stakeholders involved to rally behind us so that we could always resist these Chinese” He said.

Mr. Oliver Sawu, a father of five and a husband to a wife, an owner of 32.5 acres of cocoa, an acre each of palmnut and citrus plantations, several acres of cassava and plantain plantations and an aquaculture and rice farmer also called on government to supply to farmers in large quantities of agro- products and also called on the youth to also take part in active farming since that is also a very robust business venture and profession.
