OVER FORTY SIX THOUSAND CANDIDATES TO WRITE BECE IN GHANA TODAY.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) starts today, the 5th of June 2017, across Ghana. An estimated number of over forty six thousand candidates are expected to sit for the exams.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has asked students, teachers and invigilators to desist from engaging in examination malpractices. This directive, if adhered to would prevent such situations as cancellation or withholding of results of candidates.

According to the GES, anybody caught indulging in any form of malpractice would be dealt with accordingly. This would serve as a deterrence to others who intend to indulge in the act.

Over the years, there have been cases of various forms of malpractice during the BECE. Invigilators assisting candidates while exams is ongoing, candidates entering the exams hall with materials and candidates discussing questions among themselves while exams is still ongoing are some forms of malpractice.

In 2015, the GES had to cancel the first examination which was written by that batch of candidates. Subsequently, the candidates had to re-write the exams again causing inconvenience to some students and financial loss to the state at large. GES is thereby doing all in its power to ensure that this year’s examination is devoid of malpractices.
