*PRESS RELEASE*

*FIRST SIX MONTHS OF PRESIDENT MEETING WITH THE MEDIA*.

Democracy is costly and must be purchased with the remaining cedi the country has.

As part of efforts to ensure a   country centred on accountability, successive governments have always felt it necessary to listen and respond to issues the ordinary citizens may have.  People may want to interrogate presidents they elect and as such undertake this through the media from time to time.

Today, the 18th day of July under the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government made a history for Ghana.

First and foremost, our media must recognise they go to the forum on behalf of the citizens to express issues bothering the general living and all economic related  issues(welfare)of Ghanaian citizens.

Secondly, the position of “Finders-Forum Ghana” on the media encounter is another avenue for deepening and widening our democratic system”

Indeed, our governance system without a word is developing not in a rapid pace but more of “tortoise style” as it stops developing anytime there is mutilation in respect of government.

It’s important to note that governance/government is not incumbent upon a sole executive and by virtue of that requires every organ of government to patronize or respond to specific issues bothering the general public or when confronted with.

Many are those talking about the president allowing some key members of the administration respond to specific questions about the departments they belong to but fail to factor in the analysis, what governance/government fully requires.

It is not astounding when the president channelled some specific questions to respective persons for response except to admit that he isn’t properly briefed on some issues especially, issues that deal with the economy.

It is fairly in order when leadership decides to let appointees realise that they are accountable for what they do whilst serving in all capacities in government.

The president sought to offer a more-intimacy of letting appointees be ACCOUNTABLE.

The president’s statement on whether or not his name would be on the ballot paper come the next elections is what we describe as suicidal.

This, without any difficulty would affect the party in government negatively as the need to fish for a flag bearer is hinted.

The party has a lot to do and could have explained the matter of whether to endorse the current leadership candidature or not could have been deliberated in an”  intra-party”administrative system.

*”THE TIME AND MEETINGS WITH THE MEDIA/PRESS”*

It is for a purpose to specifically bring to light what the government of the day has impacted after the first six months in office that meeting media system as campaign promises are made the subject basis for interrogations.

Considering the time-span with which some leaders make certain key appointments, if possible political parties would need to adapt to”A one-year” system of having “MEET THE MEDIA/PRESS”

Any government with well formed and achievable policies would have a physical impact to point out as part of its promises delivering.

As we move on, it is of the citizens interest to know what government does whilst serving and this is in line with the promises political parties make and since this is the case,we recommend meet the media been extended to a “one-year period”whilst in office.

THE MEDIA.

Invited media men/outlets can make follow-up questions if found relevant and unsatisfactory.

We believe presidents should be put to scrutiny and must be responsible for what they say.

The media should be well positioned to put our leaders to tougher questioning which without doubt was witnessed but could be done better.

Thank you.

…..Signed…..

Osman Rahim Hassan

Executive director.
