De Gea Accused of sexual assault

David de Gea learned of the allegations made against him at around midday on Friday while in his room at Spain’s Euro 2016 Ile de Re base, after reports came out that allege that the goalkeeper had arranged a sex party in 2012, which Athletic Club player Iker Muniain attended.

La Roja’s players had exercised in the gym on Friday morning and had eaten together, before being allowed some downtime, and De Gea was playing videogames in his room when he was alerted to the news.

He immediately called his family after reading the article.

“They know me and they know that this is false,” he later said at a press conference scheduled for him to give his version of events.

Before talking to the media, the goalkeeper asked to speak to the key figures within the Spanish FA, including head coach Vicente del Bosque, president Angel Maria Villar, director Maria Jose Claramunt and press officer Paloma Antoranz.

They agreed that he should hold the press conference and he was supported by his teammates, some of whom – such as Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba – attended in person.
