Danny Rose’s brother facing lengthy ban after Newport defender angrily knocked red card out of referee’s hand.

Paolo Di Canio pushed a referee to the ground, Eric Cantona karate kicked an opposition fan in the crowd while Joey Barton tried to take half the Manchester City team with him when he was sent off for QPR once.

Angry reactions to red cards are hardly uncommon in football, but they still make the headlines when they occur, and an incident in League Two on Saturday was no different.

Tottenham star Danny Rose’s younger brother Mitch landed himself in hot water after angrily reacting to being sent off by knocking the red card out of the referee’s hand.

The 22-year-old’s anger was understandable – he had just given away a last-minute penalty that led to Newport losing 3-2 to Cambridge United.

But Rose’s behaviour was inexcusable, and the midfielder could now be facing a lengthy ban for misconduct.

Rose received his marching orders for a foul inside the six yard box and his fury was evident immediately as he passionately protested his innocence.

But referee Mark Heywood was unconvinced and brandished the red card, only to see it flutter onto the pitch as Rose knocked it out of his hand before storming off.

It capped off an awful afternoon for the Welsh side, who saw their 2-0 lead evaporate and end in a last-gasp defeat.

Though goalkeeper Joe Day saved George Maris’ resultant penalty, Mark Roberts followed up to convert the rebound and send the home support into raptures.
