Cristiano Ronaldo: Football is my passion but I have to think of the future

Whilst planning to carry on scoring goals for Real Madrid for many years to come, Cristiano Ronaldo has an eye on his life after football by investing in hotels.

On Sunday the Portuguese officially opened the second hotel bearing his trademark, the Pestana CR7 Lisboa in the historic heart of the capital.

“Life is not just football,” the striker declared during his speech at the hotel launch accompanied by his mother Dolores Aveiro and son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.

“Obviously it’s my passion but I have to think about the future.”

During the ceremony, which was interrupted by noisy fans, the 31-year-old revealed he has dreamed of being a hotelier since he was very young.

“I lived in Lisbon for seven years as a young player so I couldn’t not have a hotel here,” he added.

With an investment of 15 million euros, this is the second hotel in the partnership between the player and the Pestana hotel group, which has about 100 hotels in 15 countries.

The first joint venture is in Madeira’s capital Funchal while further projects are expected to be launched in the Gran Via in Madrid and close to Times Square in New York.

The Lisbon four-star hotel has 82 rooms, including the CR7 suite featuring the latest technology, including PlayStation 4 and virtual reality glasses.

There are also animated screens in the lifts to find out more about Ronaldo’s life story and surround sound sensors on the stairs projecting the sound of fans cheering in a stadium.
