CONCERNED DRIVERS OF CDAG TO ‘KUM YEN PREKO ‘DEMONSTRATION TOMORROW

Concerned drivers of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (CDAG) to ‘KUM YEN PREKO ‘demonstration. Members of the Concerned Driver Association of Ghana have declared their intentions to take an active part in Coalition for Social Justice’s KUM YEN PREKO’ demonstration slated for tomorrow Tuesday 9th of July.

According to them, they have taken inspiration from His excellency Nana Akuffo Addo own words of encouragement ‘to be citizens not spectators‘ and thus have regarded the upcoming demonstration as a tool that may propel President Akuffo Addo who has forgotten his personal principles and has deliberately plunge them into hardship.

They pictured a transforming era in the lives of drivers of President Akuffo Addo’s government especially when drivers were used as vibrant campaign agents for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). They claim without doubt they can boldly say that their contribution led to the abortion of John Mahama’s tenure of office.

Today under Akufo-Addo, the ordinary Ghanaian driver is impoverished contrary to his promise to make life comfortable for them. They are not able to cater for themselves and dependents as he, the man who when seeking for power used to join them in their trotro now enjoys luxury with his wife, children and family members without considering how his faithful allies are faring.
Some of the factors that have necessitated their move to join Tuesday’s demonstration are not limited to these factors only. That is the increment in Fuel Prices, Poor road Infrastructure and Luxury Vehicle Levy. Prices of fuel have shot up at an unprecedented rate under Akufo-Addo’s government.

They find it ironical that the man who joined them to demonstrate over just a Cedi increment of fuel prices under Mahama is now increasing prices incessantly? To borrow his own words, “Ye te sika nso kom de yen “, we would want to tell him that “yetu petrol nso yentumi nto “.

Also, drivers have had to battle with poor road infrastructure under Akufo-Addo Addo even road worthy charges at the DVLA have increased. Spare parts dealers have also increased the prices of car spare parts. But they have had to rapidly change some key parts of their vehicles owing to the poor road infrastructure. As we speak we are not witnessing any work in progress on the major highways.

The luxury vehicle levy has become the added load which has broken the back of the camel. Car owners have now increased sales as a result of the levy. Even though they have wailed over the levy since its introduction, Akufo-Addo’s government has closed its ear to them out of gross insensitivity.
It also sad how government has gone every length to thwart their quest to demonstrate over these matters for several times even though they have legitimate rights to do so. Government had used state institutions like the police and others to keep them from hitting the streets.

Therefore, they have laced their boots regarding the upcoming demonstration as a rare opportunity under Akufo-Addo’s government even though he has led several demonstrations in history to make our problems known to the world. They have received word from the Floating Taxi Drivers Association and several driver unions who are willing to also join them. They urge all Ghanaian drivers to get involved and take an active part in the upcoming demonstration so that they can collectively make government hear their plights.
